Artist’s Statement
As an artist, I have always been passionately committed to drawing and painting the human figure in ways that are both strongly representational and expressive. The form and expression of what I see as “realism” has been constantly evolving, however, with time, experience, and insight. Always a part of that has been my intense concentration on the qualities and effects of light, and the ways it reflects and clarifies. I focus on observing closely and objectively. I would like to see my portraits as metaphors for the transitory and fragile nature of our human existence and relationships.
